| ________________________________________________________________________ Academic Focus Sacred Heart School's academic focus is rooted in the belief that we must educate the whole child to become the best person he/she can be. Our goal is to use appropriate means to build a basic foundation on which the student may learn how to live according to the gospels and how to make a living according to the Law of Love. We teach traditional academic disciplines in ways that recognize individual differences. Opportunities are provided for students to move from concrete, to semi-concrete to abstract areas successfully. Encouragement, consistent firmness and accepting respectful attitudes are essential motivating factors to lead students to reach their potential as productive problem solvers personally and socially. Administration, Faculty & Staff The administration, faculty and staff of Sacred Heart School believe that each child is a unique, unrepeatable gift loved by God. The school encourages each child to become Christ-centered by following the Commandments, the Beatitudes and the Precepts of the Church. The faculty believes that church and school must be viewed as one - united in and through the Eucharist. There can be no separation, in spirit, of the two. This union between church and school provides a stronger faith community which can integrate individual differences with communal faith values. Through the example of the staff and consistent teaching of religious truths, the student may realize that the gospel way of life can be real and livable in today's environment. Academic Focus Classroom teaching is based upon logically organized objectives and individually prepared lesson plans designed to review, teach and reinforce the curriculum. The teacher creates an atmosphere for group and individual instruction. Each teacher endeavors to create a healthy, happy environment in which students eagerly respond to the innate desire to learn and to perform to his/her greatest potential. Dedicated Teachers As dedicated teachers in a Catholic school, faculty members view teaching not only as a profession but as a vocation. Having chosen to serve in a Catholic School, the teachers commit themselves to supporting the administration and to implementing school policy. Faculty Believes The faculty believes that the development of intellectual growth is a gradual, unique response to logically organized life experiences. Through the implementing of various teaching methods, students will progress from concrete to symbolic to abstract thinking. Motivation of Enthusiasm Motivation of enthusiasm for learning is instilled to encourage self-motivation for independent learning. By nurturing their curiosity through opportunities for observation and experimentation, students will discover personal attributes and abilities which may be developed to be successful in life. Physical Development The physical development of the child includes an awareness of maximum personal development, good sportsmanship and preventive health care through proper nutrition and exercise. In view of the reality of substance abuse, instruction in this area is given based on need within the school and community. Sharing a Spirit Sharing a spirit of dedication, openness and sincerity, the faculty of Sacred Heart regard themselves as a family supporting and encouraging one another's efforts. As a faculty, the teachers strive to work as a unit to educate the children academically and spiritually and to strengthen each other in friendship and love. Social Development Social development begins in the family unit. Our goal is to build on the influence of the family and to teach students to model the Law of Love. Acceptable behavior and respect for authority are deemed essential disciplines as the student progresses through the grade levels and beyond adolescence. Student Performance Each student's performance is informally evaluated on a daily basis. Formal student evaluation is conducted through national achievement tests, diagnostic tests, examinations and text-related level tests. Communication is established between home and school through the tri-semester pupil progress reports and parent conferences. Teaching Community The teaching community of Sacred Heart School supports parents in their divine responsibility as the primary educators of their children. Aware of this, the faculty works together with the parents in the development of the child. Teachers confer with parents to develop each student to his/her fullest potential. The Teacher The teacher is a catalyst through whom Christian moral values are formed in the student. The faculty and staff strive to season firmness with kindness, understanding and mutual respect. They encourage the development of self-discipline with the teacher as a role model in imitation of Christ, the Divine Teacher. |
